Want to look and feel the best on your wedding day? Yes, I’m going to say it, you are what you eat! We all know it may be hard for some of us to keep on top of those crazy dramatic diet plans and a workout schedule that just doesn’t gel with your social life.
So this week we’ve put together a few small healthy tips that you can easily slip into your weekly eats and can still make a difference!
1. Eat a grapefruit
Some of us love it, some of us hate it. However, researchers have found that drinking grapefruit juice, or eating half a grapefruit daily, can lower the amount of weight gained when eating fatty foods. Although the reason isn’t truly clear yet, it may because grapefruit has insulin controlling properties, making us feel less hungry.
2. Eat some papaya
Papayas are full of the enzyme Papain, which means they’re great at aiding the digestion of proteins! If something breaks down food faster, it usually means it can also help you have a flatter belly and prevent bloating as well.
3. Beetroot salads!
Beetroots are one of the ultimate detoxifying vegetables as they’re packed with vitamins (A, B6, C), as well as manganese and potassium. Also, they’re one of the richest sources of glutamine; an enzyme that is essential for a healthy intestinal tract. Don’t forget about the leaves too, many of the nutrients are in there!
4. COOL AS cucumbers
If you find it hard to do the other things, cucumbers are super convenient and super healthy! It’s low in calories, and high in water content and fibre. This means they’re very effective in getting rid of toxins in your body. Why not add a few slices into your salad next time?
5. Add a little apple cider vinegar
Many people swear by it, and if you’re looking for something really easy (although the taste might be off putting at first), this one might be for you! Along with its detoxifying qualities, it can also prevent excessive water retention and make you feel less hungry. You can add this to your salads or drinks, or inhale a few teaspoons of it if that’s easier.
6. Eat your way to a fish glow
Nearly all types of fish are packed with essential fatty acids, omega 3 and are full of protein. Oily fish are an essential if you want lustrous, flowing hair, and glowing skin. Also, they support healthy cell membranes which can prevent harmful substances from damaging cells in your body.
7. Beware of cauliflowers, broccolis and Brussels sprouts
Take caution when consuming cruciferous vegetables that includes cauliflowers, broccolis and Brussels sprouts. Not saying you shouldn't eat them at all (they are very nutritious!), but it may be a good idea to switch to other vegetables (such as asparagus) just before the wedding as these may cause you to have a bloated belly, and your guests may be smelling something a little less pleasant than your flowers. This is because they're full of cellulose, a sugar which our digestive system can struggle with; cooking them beforehand however can greatly help break them down.
8. Avoid "sugar-free" junk food
Think again when choosing the sugar free alternative of drinks, sweets, or foods. Artificial sweeteners are incredibly hard to digest and can leave you very bloated. Although it’s better to avoid sweets altogether, if you must (and sometimes we all do!), the natural choice is the better one.
Your diet can be vital in helping you look and feel amazing on your dream day, but it may only be half the equation if you want the perfect body; exercising and many other factors can be just as important. Stay beautiful!
